Annoying ringing in the ear resulting in loss of hearing?
Kimberly S asked:
I woke up the other morning with a slight ringing in my right ear. Now, a day later, I have the ringing still but it’s a lot more prominent and also accompanied by some loss of hearing in my right ear. What could be causing it and what can I do to rid of it?

The ringing in your ears, also known as tinnitus, is typically a symptom of another underlying condition – of the ear, the auditory nerve, or elsewhere. Tinnitus can be present with our without hearing loss. Often time if you experience tinnitus following exposure to loud sounds, it is sign some level of damage may have occurred to your hearing. This may be permanent or temporary. For more info on causes of tinnitus visit:
Since you are experiencing both tinnitus and hearing loss, I strongly recommend you visit an audiologist for a full hearing evaluation and if necessary he/she will refer you to an ear, nose and throat doctor for further examination.
