Any way to prevent hearing loss?

hearing loss
Raychel asked:

Has all the damage Ive done to my ears (ipods, driving with the window down on the freeway, concerts, etc) already dont the damage that it was going to do? Or will it still catch up with me 20 years from now if I stop exposing myself to loud sounds and wear ear plugs when Im at events, etc. ?

  1. Moll's Mom Says:

Noise exposure damage is cumulative throughout your life. Any noise you expose yourself to at a young age does cause permanent damage, but it usually takes several exposures to “add up” to hearing loss most people associate with age (but it’s not–noise is the #1 cause of hearing loss in the US). That being said, if you were to begin actively protecting your hearing at concerts, etc. then you would slow down the compounding of these repeat exposures. It is never too late to start hearing conservation. Any damage done will not reverse, but you can avoid more damage by being careful.
