Can baby suffer hearing loss when exposure to loud music?
Hi All,
Recently, my 14 months old baby was putting my handphone near his ear which was then playing loud music. i took it away from him only after few mins when I realise it. I am very worry that it will affect his hearing? It was quite loud even to an adult if putting it close to ear. I was not alert enough to take it away from him. Anyone can advise on this? Anyone know where can I do a hearing screening for toddler in Singapore?

Why were you not alert enough to take it away from him? But, yes, it can affect his hearing if it continues. I think just one time will not do it, but then again, I’m not a doctor. Wanda

One time exposure I don’t think you should worry. Prolonged exposure to loud music will damage anyones hearing. But since it was the one time thing I think your child will be just fine. Krispy

Don’t worry!! Your baby would have to have been exposed for a very long time to cause any kind of permanent damage. There will be many of these kind of loud exposures over the course of his life…. in conjunction- the headphone would really have to be in his ear deep for him to get the full impact of the loud sound like it is for you. Either way, if a sound is very loud a baby will naturally rip the device from his ear. I fit hearing aids on babies and one really good way for us to know if the hearing aids are not set correctly (too loudly) is that the baby will rip it from their ear, cry etc… Your baby will be just fine- no harm done.
