Jack Frost asked:

I have very sensitive ears and I’m bothered by the sound of clattering dishes and moderately loud conversations. At times I also hear ringing in my ears; I also have an underbite.
I believe I have TMJ, but how does the jaw affect hearing?

Also, I heard grinding your teeth can affect hearing, too.

What can I do to prevent hearing loss?

I went to the dentist and they took an x-ray. The X-ray shows that my upper wisdom teeth and two molars(which haven’t grown in yet) are practically right next to my ears. Could this be causing a hearing problem?

I have had braces for a month, and i have a substantial overbite. For the past month, my right ear and jaw pop and crack four or five times a day. I feel as though my hearing is suffering too.

my orthodontist says the reason i am grinding is because of my overbite and misaligned teeth. Should the temporary hearing loss wear off the less i grind?

Please don’t lecture about going to the doctor or anything else, I’m working on it. I’m just being curious until I get there because until I am seen they can not (or in all reality due to the fear of being sued will not) give me a straight answer.
