Nearly 1 in 5 Americans own an iPod (or similar brand). They can be listened to at 100dB. This is loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss with regular use.

Can regular headphones cause hearing loss? Not those ear bud headphones such as i pod headphones?

i use philips she9850. they are good, but i get a numbness in my ears long after i have stopped listening. please note i usually listen to audio books and NOT MUSIC, so there is no blaring sound. are the in-ear phones still harmful for me over the long-term?

Is there any way to change the audio balance on the iPod Touch? (for a hearing loss)?

I don’t hear very well out of my right ear, and I would love it if i could increase the volume of the right headphone so that I don’t have to turn it up to a volume that is damaging to my left ear to hear the song.. Is there any way to control the volume independently? Any hidden setting, or app?

Can someone give me an article that says MP3 players dont really cause hearing loss?

Ernest A asked:

Saw Darius Rucker on Oprah yesterday. Noticed hearing aid type devices in his ears. I’ve seen these devices in the ears of musicians used more and more these days. What are they for? Can he hear himself? I assume it’s in stereo or mono-aural?

is there a headphone that is similar to a hearing aid?
