I’m writing a book in which a character needs to have instant, complete hearing loss which does not go away on its own, but remains until treated.

Preferably caused by trauma or infection, but it needs to to happen very quickly and be reversible.

Anyone have any ideas?

I was talking to a co-worker about how much I enjoy lossless files to mp3 because the quality is greater. He said that he has hearing loss so he doesn’t really care. I was then wondering if hearing loss affects (effects or affects I can’t decide) the quality of sound or just the decibel level of sound. I live in NYC, and I’m also curious if city-dwellers (especially here with the loud subways) tend to have greater or younger loss of hearing than rural and/or suburbanites

I always listen to music halfway loud, and I have an Ipod with the earbud earphones, but one day, my left ear went really muffled. Its been this way for a week or maybe more, so i thought, alright, i have hearing loss. But yesterday, i put my fingertip in my ear and there seemed to be wax that was really watery and it feels crusty-like in that ear.

I let water run a few days ago and when i muffled my left ear, my RIGHT ear seemed bad, and my left ear seemed fine. Another night I muffled my right ear, and the LEFT ear seemed really muffled/bad.

Its strange because it varies in each ear, but its mostly the left. Its really strange…help please? Its like the left ear heals…so the hearing loss goes to the right ear…then the right ear heals, and the left one goes bad again.

Should i seek a doctor? Wtf is going on?? Help?

I know that listening to loud music does damage to the ear…. But I was wondering does it have to be hearing loss or can loud music do some other damage to the ear without affecting ur hearing at all. Cos after using ear phones and listening to music that’s sort off very loud….. my left ear pops a lot and sometimes feel sort of full and clogged up.

But I can even hear people talking in whispers from quite a distance and don’t feel any change in my hearing at all. SO could my left ear be feeling like this because of the music.

P.s went to the doctor and she said my ear feels very clean.
But it has been 5 or 6 months and left ear just feels a little lighter but still pops and feels full

Would I be able to hear better when I “pop” my ears by pinching my nose & blowing? It seems to me that if I had nerve damage, no matter what I do, I’d still have trouble hearing , right?

My left ear is near 100% deaf across the board. My right ear has around 70-80% loss, mixed.
I think the audiologist told me wrong when she suggested I use the digital hearing aid on the better ear.

I have one digital and one analog. Can’t hear much without either of them.
