Lets say someone listened to their ipod at 90% volume, two hours a day, five days a week for a few years, how long until hearing loss would be noticed? Soon or not until old age? How does one make sure that they will not after using the ipod or is that impossible to determine?

I have had a fairly steady hearing loss that seems to have accelerated in the last year or so. I do not have health insurance at this time, but I need to get this corrected. It is affecting everyday life as well as my classwork. I need to find a cost effective way to correct this any suggestions?

I am 32, have suffered from chronic inner ear infections all of my life (reason for hearing problem). I am a full time student, which is the reason I do not have insurance. Oh, and because of the ear infections I have had both ear drums rupture more than once. It only hurt the first time.

My mother-in-law has a hearing problem, everybody who knows her says so. She says she doesn’t and everybody else is “mumbling”. What is the best way to convince her to go to the ear doctor to get a professional opinion? Again she doesn’t feel the need to go because everybody else mumbles.

The_Reporter asked:

I mean, i assume if they here less, they can withstand sounds at higher decibels. is this true?
decibels dictate loudness, and the louder you get the higher the pain is. The threshold of hearing is 70 decibels, meaning over 70 you start damaging your coheclear hairs. but there is also a decibel lever that causes pain. does that increase for people with hearing loss
