Could listening to my MP3 player all day for a long weekend give me hearing loss?
karl_obezyanka asked:
This has to be the nerdiest case of potential hearing loss ever, but: I got a new MP3 player and spent the entire MLK weekend listening to audiobooks. Maybe eight hours a day or more. Typically the volume was less than half way to maximum. However, today my ears feel like they are full of water and speech sounds muffled. Could I really have damaged my hearing in such a short time?

I was using a Palm Pixi and generic earbuds if that helps.

Consider that it may actually not be related specifically to a “clinical” hearing loss caused by loud noise that destroyed some of your hearing, but possibly that the earphones sort of sealed your ear canal and thus the possible buildup of fluid or pressure. That being said, I am not a physician or audiologist and if it continues you should probably see your ENT or audiologist. There is a good amount of information and research of various hearing loss issues and treatments at the site I reference below if you want to do any more research. Kenny
