Does anyone has a baby with hearing loss?

what was the cause on your child and how did you deal with it? i’m not sure yet but my baby failed 2 hearing tests already and i’m concern.
She had 2 at the hospital and was refer and she the other one 10 days ago and didn’t pass now she’s having another one to confirm her hearing loss. I still have faith that she still had fluid in her ears can it be possible she was 1 month when she had the last one?

oh are you talking about the hearing screen they give the baby before you leave the hospital??? if so, don’t panic. my son failed 2 of those aswell, (they are not an actual hearing test, they are a screen which is a test to see if they need to have further testing) my son then had a real hearing test at 4 weeks (this one could tell me a definite yes or no for hearing loss) he passed with flying colours and has 100% hearing! sometimes babies still have fluid in the ears from the birth which is a reason they may fail the screen. i know how u must be feeling, i was so anxious thinking my new little baby boy was deaf! he is 5 months old and is certainly not, he responds to every little thing he hears! good luck with ur little one!! I am a 26 year old with severe hearing loss. In fact, I’m almost completely deaf. But hearing aids make up for a lot of what I do not have. Yes, it’s annoying, and there are certain lifestyle adaptations, but a hearing loss is not the worst thing in the world. I’m sure your baby will be fine, but just know that you are not alone. Technology is amazing, and you will learn how to deal with whatever life hands you. jvzdutch

I think so, my son failed his newborn screening in both ears and the follow-up about 2 1/2 weeks later in his left ear. At almost four months old he had his third test- called an ABR (Auditory Brain-stem Response) and passed. I send you and your baby all the best thoughts and wishes! jarleneross

It could go either way. If she does have hearing loss, do your research. Find out how much hearing she has. Will she be able to hear with hearing aids? If so, how well? Is she a good candidate for a cochlear implant? What does you pediatrician suggest?
There is a feeling among hearing people that being deaf is the end of the world and a disability. However, most deaf people don’t see it that way. In fact there is a whole Deaf culture out there.
The most important thing I can tell you, is if you child is indeed deaf or hard of hearing, do your research!! And don’t do anything you don’t feel comfortable with. Don’t let a Dr. talk you into something you don’t want. Get involved with your local Deaf community and start to learn ASL (American Sign Language). Most deaf children (90%) are born to hearing parents and have little to no language skills when they enter kindergarten. This puts them at a great disadvantage. As they have to learn a language before they can be taught.
