just wondering
If you have hearing loss and are unbalanced, would a hearing aid help with balance?

Yes - deafness and hearing loss can somtimes be accompanied by vertigo - dizziness and/or loss of balance. It depends on which area of the ear and ear canal are affected…. Kenna’s mom

a middle ear infection can cause balance problems. A severe ear infection can cause hearing loss and if it affects your middle ear, balance issues too. In your middle ear is a circular part that has fluid in it. when this fluid sloshes around(when you spin in a cirlce fast), it will make you lose your balance. When this fluid becames infected, same affect. bubbles

Hearing isn’t what keeps your balance, balance is kept by the pressure felt by a small organ inside your ear. That’s why people born deaf can still have good balance, as long as their deafness isn’t related to damage of the rest of the ear. (because the balance organ isn’t damaged) And thats why those who lose their hearing to catastrophic physical damage of their ear, such as an explosion induced overpressure, also lose their balance. (because the tiny organ gets damaged too)

So, no. A hearing aid will do nothing for your balance. mike.huntsmells
