How does Aging effects hearing loss?

I think it depends on lifestyle choices like occupational risks and interests like loud concerts and noisy clubs. germaine_87313

Some of it is just aging, and starts in early adulthood; very young people hear high-frequency sounds that adults rarely can hear. The rest is the result of wear and tear on the system over a lifetime.
Noise, both sudden like explosions, and chronic, like riding the subway, also causes hearing loss.
Hearing is accomplished by tiny tuned hair cells in the cochlea. Once they are damaged, they do not regenerate. The ones associated with very high frequencies are the most likely to be damaged. Unfortunately, these are also the ones needed most for understanding speech. Sandra
