i have a minor hearing loss in both ears will that keep me from going into the marines?

when someone talks to and they talk low its hard for me to hear them but other than that i can hear pretty good i just dont want to go to meps and not be able to get in the marines cause of my hearing getting in the marines is all i want to do i want it more than anything in the world

YES IT WILL I TRIED TO JOIN THEM WHAN I WAS 18 AND COULD NOT BECAUSE OF HEARING LOSS (SORRY) bert

you’ll take the same entrance physical as anyone else. it all depends on how you score on the hearing test. medical waivers can be sent up depending on how well you score. if the marines say no (depending on your scores again) you might be able to try another branch. the army, for example, has different standards for each MOS. gitnrdun

it can. depends on the level of loss and at what point you can no longer hear. they will test you. but if you cannot hear a whisper, you are probably SOL.. kind of imprisonment to be able to hear and understand low voiced communication.
that being said, DH had fairly significant loss due his prior civilian job and has been in for 14 years now. Mrsjvb

Depending on how bad it is you should be able to get a waiver. The hearing test was at least in 1996 a test where you wear headphones and you push a button when you hear a beep so you may even pass it at Meps. amanda

If you’re not hard of hearing now, you would be after you get tinnitus from all the explosions and loud noises.. And in boot camp, no one will be whispering to you.
At MEPS there is a hearing test that you take where you sit in a dark booth with 3 other recruits with a stool in each corner facing the wall, with head phones on and a buzzer in your hand. They shut the door and they play different levels of tones or rings and you hit the button everytime you hear one. I’m pretty sure this just lets them know how to better place you. If you’re not completely deaf it shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but don’t second guess yourself and not even try just because you think you might fail. That’s against the whole idea of being a Marine. τнε ßεℓℓατrιχ

It depends, when you go to MEPS for your physical you will take a hearing test. Try your hardest because if you fail it is permanently disqualifying. bigbaucum

It might as the marines might deem that your hearing loss could endanger you and fellow future marines if they allowed you to pass. I have the same problems with my eyes. I’m just hoping my eyes are ok to join as an officer in the Army Air Corps. JALLEN
