What did the audiologist say about your hearing loss when you talked to him/her? Did they recommend hearing aids? Some hearing loss is congenital (it runs in families), sometimes it occurs as the result of an accident (like a skull fracture), and sometimes it occurs from too much loud music or noise (like construction noise) over a long period of time. There are ways of coping with it -- you can turn up the volume on your phone, radio, etc. You can make an effort to talk to people in quiet locations -- at home with the TV off, in quiet restaurants, etc. -- and avoid noisy venues like sports bars, noisy parties, busy restaurants, etc. One device worth considering is something called TV Ears. It's a lightweight headset that amplifies and sharpens the dialogue and sounds on television so that you can hear conversations, the news, etc., more easily. It's made a huge difference for my husband, who is deaf but refuses to wear hearing aids out of vanity. Amaretta
