Cars can be made to go over 100mph which is also dangerous. The driver can choose to drive at a safe speed and still enjoy the car. I think that IPod users can use their devices safely (at safe volume levels) and with intelligence. The fact that they can exceed 100dB will not decrease the popularity of the product at all. Apple does provide software to program in limits to the overall volume produced by the device - I highly recommend that IPod users utilize this option (especially for younger listeners!) melloyellolab2000

why would that lower their popularity?..... every mp3 player can be listened to at that level, but that doesn't mean they are listened to at that level bks_titans99

Nope. It won't lessen their popularity, but it might increase it.

In the 70's and 80's my speakers were just as loud. Used to crank it up and put my head next to the speaker.

In the 80's, my Sony Walkman got plent loud too.

I also worked about 2 dozen rock concerts as stage crew in the 80's as well. My ears would ring a little after some shows if I didn't wear ear plugs.

My hearing is degraded. It wouldn't stop me from owning any of these devices or listening to my music at louder volumes. But I do avoid earbleed volumes these days and I wear earplugs if and when I can get a babysitter so I can actually go to a concert. Knowledge Seeker

I am pretty sure it does. My brother plays in a guitar band and he has hearing loss because of it. Ipods can be just as loud. Tyler

As long as the volume is at a decent level, it won't damage your hearing. If a person is dumb enough to listen to one at full volume then they are pretty stupid and will probably lose their hearing at some point anyways. Even if it's not with an iPod.

This will not affect the popularity of the iPod. Athena

Yes, although iPods r loud but u don't have to listen to it with high volume and for long time. just in this case, it causes hearing loss MoFar
