Joining military with hearing loss?

hearing loss
Matt asked:

i have a sloping hearing loss in my left ear only, which means that certain frequencies at certain volumes i can not hear in my left ear. i don’t no the exact details about it but i can hear pretty much everything at a normal volume. My question is what are the guidelines for joining the military, what kind of tests do they do when trying to join?

they will give you a standard hearing test ,and go from there and it,s up to the doctors if your fit for the military. Monty S

All potential recruits will have an initial hearing test at MEPS. Some MEPS facilities are more stringent than others. The recruiter should have info on which will be lenient on incoming personnel. They will work extensively with you to insure that it is not a problem, unless you are legally deaf. I was in the same predicament. Tubes in my ears at age 7. While I lived in Marshall County, MS, my recruiter drove me to Little Rock, AK, when the nearest MEPS was in Memphis, TN. It was an additional four hours out of his way. gatgroman2
