My 3 year old daughter has an ear infection but no fever. Could it cause hearing problem if left untreated?

On Sunday, my three year old daughter was complaining of a ear pain (no fever). So we took her to the doctor and she was diagnosed with ear infection. The doctor prescribed antibiotic but said we could hold off on the antibiotic if she wasn’t complaining the next day. She does not have any fever and has been her usual playful self. Is it possible for a child to not have fever or complain about ear pain even with an infection? Should I be worried? Can it cause hearing problems in future?

The Doctor prescribes antibiotics for an infection after diagnosing it, then tells you not to give them if theres no pain the next day! I’d go back if the infection is still there it could cause problems as the infection could come back.
If the doctor wasn’t to sure it was a bacterial infection he would rather not let her take the antibiotics as she could build up immunity to the antibiotic which could case problems in the future. Kaz

Take her to an otolaryngologist which actually knows how an ear infection manifests and can order up more specific tests. A pediatrician with an otoscope can’t get enough information. The otolaryngologist can also send her for a test to see if it is affecting her hearing. Chances are it’s all temporary in the end so you really cant make the wrong decision. Good Luck! C
