preventing further hearing loss?
trillian_069 asked:
I have just had my hearing tested and have some mild loss at high frequencies. Just wondering if there are things i can do to prevent further loss, or probably more importantly, things i should avoid? I dont go to loud concerts very often, and although i do use headphones a bit i use a closed-hear one (senneheisser hd 212 pro) which arent as bad as buds.

You can’t prevent hearing loss from aging or heredity, but you can prevent a noise-induced hearing loss. Noise is the #1 cause of loss in the US (not age). When you go to concerts bring earplugs. The hi-fi earplugs are awesome b/c you can hear through them (www.etymotic.com) and at $12/pair they’re affordable. Give yourself 15 min listening breaks every 45 minutes when using headphones. Bring your plugs to sporting events, fireworks, parades, or any time you’re going to be around loud noise.
