Should I be concerned about hearing loss?

hearing loss
lifon_thedge asked:

Recently while welding, some slag popped and landed in my ear. This is a commom risk while welding, to be burned by hot slag in most any area imagineable. This time however the slag seemed to go deeper into my ear than norm. Since then I have had a ringing in my ear and a sensation of stoppage like as in a change of atmosphere or altitude. My hearing doesn’t seem affected, but the stoppage and ringing at times is very annoying. Is this something to worry about or will it go away as all welding burns do?

There are meds for “tinnitus,” which is ringing in the ear. But we don’t know if you have it permanently. If your insurance has you go to your primary first in order to see a specialist, go see your primary. He/She may be able to help you. Otherwise, you’ll get referred to a ENT. (Ear, nose, and throat specialist.)

Good luck to you. You should get this figured out. :)

If this was at work, make sure you report it and go through workers’ comp. It’s possible that you damaged or even perforated your ear drum. You need to go to an ENT about this ASAP.
