Hearing Information

I have a son whose was diagnosed with mild hearing loss in both ears. And while I’m grateful that it was only MILD hearing loss, I can’t help worrying about him still.

I have heard people with hearing loss and they tend to speak… a little unusual. I want to know if that is the way he will speak once he gets hearing aids and speech therapy.

i have a minor hearing loss in both ears its not really a hearing loss its just i sometimes cant hear different pitches and tones but other than that i can hear fine if i would get hearing aids would i be able to get in the marines

If a person wears glasses or contacts at all for seeing far the DMV restricts their license with a “corr. lenses” mark even if their prescription is very minor.
So why then do they not restrict those who wear hearing aids? In fact profoundly deaf people who don’t hear anything at all recieve no restrictions on their licenses either.
I’m wondering why.
P.S: I have nothing against Deaf people both my parents are Deaf. I’m just curious.

My hearing has been going down for years and I want to be tested and purchase two hearing aids. Of course, they vary in price quite a bit.

How much would the test(s) cost for a hearing aid? I imagine an audiogram is one of the tests performed. A rough estimate is fine. Most audiologists won’t give me a straight answer when I ask…I guess they want to surprise me with a huge bill, lol.

I recently found out my 5 year old daughter has moderate hearing loss and will require hearing aids in both ears. She has fairly good speech and is doing well at school. Her teacher was surprised she had hearing loss. I keep worrying about her hearing loss possibly getting wose. How likely would it be for it to get worse to the point where she could become fully deaf? Is this a possibility?

i’ve had a hearing loss since birth but didn’t know until kindergarten. i wore hearing aids in kindergarten until high school because i felt too embarassed to wear them although my mom kept encouraging me too and sometimes we had fights about it. i really don’t like the kinds that go behind your ears. it makes me feel uncomfortable and embarassed around other people. i don’t think the tiny ones would be useful with my type of hearing loss. i have normal hearing in my right ear and 80% of hearing loss in my left ear. in kindergarten we went to 2 people for opinions about hearing aids. one said no and the other said yes. i feel more comfortable without them. i had a lot of trouble at a college i was at. i was on academic probation twice. im at another college now. what do u think i should do?

Seems like my hearing aids never last more than 5 or 6 years (I have the digital type). The first one cost me $1,600. Five years later the second one cost me $2,000. Now I’m about to get my third one and it will cost me $2,700. I would appreciate comments from anyone about how long their DIGITAL hearing aid has lasted them. Also appreciate comments about which brand they think is the best.
