teeth grinding and hearing loss?

hearing loss
ihveaqstn asked:

I have had braces for a month, and i have a substantial overbite. For the past month, my right ear and jaw pop and crack four or five times a day. I feel as though my hearing is suffering too.

my orthodontist says the reason i am grinding is because of my overbite and misaligned teeth. Should the temporary hearing loss wear off the less i grind?

Funny things can happen when you grind, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

When your jaw pops or cracks, is the sound so loud that it leaves your ear ringing a bit and your hearing feeling muffled for a few minutes?

If so, you are experiencing a temporary threshold shift–in other words, a temporary hearing loss. It should get back to normal in a few minutes. I wouldn’t expect this by itself to cause permanent hearing loss.

Hopefully the braces will realign your jaw and put an end to this annoying sound.
