What causes temporary hearing/ear problem described “like having water in your ears”?
Danny asked:
Dads got this hearing/ear problem that comes and goes for no apparent reason. Its not ringing in the ears. He said its like having water in your ears, where his own voice/breathing is louder. He instinctively tries to yawn to fix the problem (like someone on an airplane) but it never works. Sometimes when he sits forward with his head bowed or lies down the problem goes away.
Anyone now whats causing it?
Thanks for your help
Danny

Cause could be as simple as wax or more complex one. One possibility may be eustachian tube dys-function or patulous tube.
Best is to consult an ENT specialist for thorough history and examination of ear/nose and throat to arrive to a diagnosis.
If required he may be advised to get his hearing evaluation done by p/t audiometry and/or impedance audiometry. Dr Archi J
