Phil U asked:

I’ll never believe R&D is that costly. Also, why won’t most major health care providers cover any of the costs other than the test?
I went to a medical eye, ear & nose clinic and before they were through I felt I was being scamed.

The short answer — Because they can! Competition is limited, and people pay the price asked, so they charge what the market will bear.

You know, it’s “whatever the market will bear”, and the market will bear a lot, as the gasoline prices have shown. I know the prescription medicines are at an incredibly high price, and the time in the hospitals and all the extra doctor fees for “God-know-what”. I’ve found there’s nothing sacred or special about the medical field, and all related ones. They’re just for the rich folks, or insured, and I’m neither. God Bless you.
