no... it dose not mean your baby will be hoh or deaf however it is possible! Depending on why you became deaf. is it hereditary in your family? was it a birth/pegnancy problem? ask your mom about it! if you are the only hoh/deaf person in your family then chances are it will be hearing (ask you mom AND dad about hereditryness... i know if I ever have kids with my hearing boy friend I coud have a deaf/hoh baby because he is not deaf or hoh, but it is hereditary in his family and he is the "only" hearing person in his "whole" family i mean his parents, all his grandparents, sibilings, aunts, uncles, and cusins on both side if his family are all deaf or hoh. But I know fluent asl (american sign language) even though I live in a hearing family that never knew anything about hearing loss or deaf community/culture till I came around... I have a small percentage of hearing loss, but the average person will say im hearing (i say im hoh) - although thats not thereason why I know how to sign... its funny i learned to sign before I was diagnoased with a hearing loss! lolz!! :) an I would have met my b/f regardless of knowing sign or having hearing loss!

MY Two years old's father was born with 8th sensory nerve damage that caused him to be hard of hear at birth, and eventually be about 98% deaf at the age of 20. I feared that because this type of nerve damage could be passed on to my baby, that he would come out deaf as well. Luckily, he came out just fine, and has no signs of any hearing loss.

I suppose it depends on the source of your hearing loss. It is was genetic or congenital, it may be passed on, but if it was an injury or anything like that, then no.

either way, there is no guarantee that it could happen, like in my case.

hope this helps!!!

It is possible. I had a friend that could hear, but both of her parents were deaf, her sister was also born deaf. Since your girlfriend has good hearing your baby has more of a change having good hearing. Before she gets pregnant talk with your doctor to see what things can be done to insure a healthy baby.

Hard to say. If your hearing loss is genetic and there is a family history of hearing problems at birth then there is a high risk but if not then there is a lower risk of it. My cousin was born with a hole in her ear drums that cause hearing problems her second son also has hearing problems. They considered the hole in the ear drum a possible genetic birth defect. Do you know what caused your hearing loss?

I am a Certified Medical Assistant

It depends on who the baby takes the recessive gene.
There really is now way of telling until the baby is born.

My daughter had mild hearing loss in one ear and moderate hearing loss in the other. Neither her father nor I have hearing problems. See it just depends

Good Luck and Baby Dust

If the cause of your hearing loss is genetic then there is a possibility but i can't tell you how much because there are so many factors you must know when calculating that
Anyway if your hearing loss was caused after your conception then no...or if you baby does have hearing loss it will be due to a totally random and unrelated event.

good luck

it is possible that it's heriditary, but there's a really good chance the baby will be fine. you should ask a doctor though to find out if it's heriditary
